Around the city centre:


Bridgeclimb
Many say this is the ultimate Sydney experience – a climb across the top of the arch of the Harbour Bridge.  Views forever.  Book ahead.

A cheaper version
Catch the train from a City Station (Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall, Central, St James, Museum) to Milsons Point station(on the northern side of the harbour) and walk back across the Bridge. Kirribilli has a village atmosphere – cafes, markets, Kirribilli House (Sydney home of the Prime Minister) but the highlight is the view walking back to the city.   There is a small museum in the southern pylon that offers great views.

This is the site of Sydney’s First Settlement, dating from 1788.

The Botanic Gardens are a stroll from the AGNSW, and beyond the Gardens is Lady Macquarie’s Chair overlooking the Harbour and the Opera House.

 

Also in this area is Macquarie Street. It is home to the Library of NSW (http://www.sl.nsw.gov.au/), State Parliament, Hyde Park Barracks, amongst other early architectural buildings. It’s an easy stroll from here to the AGNSW.
